A total of 38,995 TE-initiated transcripts were identified across 33 cancer types. These TE transcripts were initiated by 39,703 TE loci. Additionally, these TEs initiated the transcription of 14,453 neighboring genes, including 9,315 protein coding genes and 4,771 lncRNA genes.

A total of 6,203 tumor-specific TE-initiated transcripts (with a tumor-specific score >= 8) were identified. The L1HS, L1P1, and HERVH families, which may retain transposition activity, were significantly enriched. Additionally, the adjacent genes were significantly enriched in tumorigenesis-associated pathways, including PTEN gene transcription, TP53 activity, and others.
